Shahjahan Khondoker

Bakery Owner

Nowadays everyone wants to be rich but mere desire is not enough rather you got to be focused and work hard for it. My father was a raw materials trader and we would be grateful, if we got to have two meals a day. In 1973 after the liberation war, my father started Mitali Biscuit Factory and after I finished school I joined the business in 1976.

I continued with my studies and also helped my father and uncle in the business simultaneously. When my father expired in 1980 I took full ownership of the business.

One thing about me is that I am very focused and target-oriented. When I took over my father’s business I not only wanted to do make profit but also expand further. There were days I left work at 5 am in the morning and again got back at 9 am and even the day I got married I went to office without taking any leave. I grew up in a middle-class family and today I own Mitali Bakery, Mitali Flour Mill. 2 factories, real estate and some other small businesses.

I don’t know if I am successful but my greatest achievement is that I have created jobs for more than 400 people. There was nobody to mentor me, I had to learn by trial and error to reach this stage in life. I may have accomplished a lot however I feel I am still lagging behind and there is still a lot to be done. Maybe this eagerness to do more inspires me to work harder.
