Who is a Foreign Investor?

A person or an organization is deemed to be a foreign investor if they put money into enterprises outside of their home country. These investments range in complexity from simple stock acquisitions to complex agreements within stock exchanges. So, foreign investment is the process by which foreign funds are deployed with the object of producing gain, either in the form of income or addition to capital through the stock exchanges.

If you are a foreign institutional investor, we have International Brokerage services to suit your needs. IDLCSL has partnered with international prime brokers to execute your investment decisions. We have a dedicated pool of international brokerage traders to support you by providing market color and instant updates during trade hour. You can connect to them through Bloomberg where you can give execution orders and receive follow-up updates on the status of your orders. Our efficient traders also arrange block flows for stocks as and when required. You will also have access to all of our research reports.

How to Trade?

As a foreign institutional investor, you may require to open up three accounts to invest in the stock market of Bangladesh. Two of the accounts (NITA, FCA) needs to be opened up at a local custodian bank. The other one (Trade Account) needs to be opened up at the brokerage house.

Necessary Documents for Foreign Institution:

  • Copy of Memorandum & Articles of Association
  • Copy of Certificate of Incorporation
  • Unanimous Written Resolution for Authorized Signatories
  • Information of Custodian Bank accounts (both cash and security account) for Bangladesh settlement
  • List of authorized traders with signature
  • Prospectus or approval documents, in case of Fund

Bangladesh’s rules and regulations are designed to provide a seamless investment and trading experience for the NRB investors in Bangladesh markets.

Who is an NRB Investor?

  • A person is considered to be an NRB investor if A Bangladeshi citizen living abroad with valid status either as foreign country’s permanent resident or with valid work permit.
  • In case of a foreign passport holder, an endorsement either from the relevant Bangladeshi embassy or from Bangladesh foreign ministry stating that “No visa is required” for traveling to Bangladesh – as a proof of dual citizenship.
How to Trade?

To invest in Bangladesh’s stock market as an NRB investor, you have to open up Cash and Securities Custody Accounts (NITA, B/O) at chosen local custodian bank and Securities Trading Account at a local brokerage house (IDLCSL).

Necessary Documents For Non-Resident Bangladeshi - both individual and joint account:

  • Two copies passport size photograph of the account holder [Attested by accountholder at the back]
  • Photocopy of Passport (with valid visa) of account holder
  • Copy of Service agreement with the employer/ Work permit/ Residence Permit/ Business documents
  • Information of Custodian Bank accounts (both cash and security account – NITA and B/O) for Bangladesh settlement, names  of  father  & mother and bank account number
  • One copy Passport size photograph of the Nominee(s), if any. [Attested by account holder]
  • One copy passport size photograph of authorized person [attested by accountholder]
  • One copy passport size photograph & Photocopy of National ID/ Valid passport of Power of Attorney [attested by accountholder]
  • Two copies passport size photograph of 2nd applicant [Attested by accountholder at the back]
  • Photocopy of Passport (with valid visa) of 2nd applicant

 

Necessary Documents For Foreign Nationals (Individual & Joint):

  • Two copies passport size photograph of the account holder [Attested by accountholder at the back]
  • Photocopy of valid foreign passport of account holder
  • Copy of Service agreement with the employer / National ID / Business documents
  • Information of Custodian Bank accounts (both cash and security account – NITA and B/O) for Bangladesh settlement, names  of  father  & mother and bank account number
  • One copy Passport size photograph of the Nominee(s), if any. [Attested by account holder]
